Another great ride from Andy Ashurst today taking 1st Vet 50 and 9th overall in a strong field on the tough 27mile Ingleborough circuit. Great to see him going so well early in the season!! This winter we worked on a new masterplan including resistance work and some specific bike training (secret)…this saw some Peak Power PB’s so expect a big season this year !!!
SSVWRT were back in action today racing in the Northwest. Maddy Scott took 2nd place At Salt Ayre criterium race circuit, narrowly beaten in the sprint! Sophie Thackery is racing the tough Holme valley Wheelers 2 day but was struck with bad luck on stage 2 after her bottle cage came lose fouling her pedals. Neutral service helped her repair roadside but after losing 3 minutes she bravely chased on for 30 miles!! With the overall out of reach be sure she will go hard tomorrow!!!!...
Only 4 months ago and a phone call between myself (SunSport coaching) and Tony Orrell (Team Torelli) was made and we decided to commit to finally putting a women’s race team together -Insane decision….YES……. but step forward Neil Lee (Velo Espresso) and Neil O’Brien (O’ Brien race Services) and you have the ‘PERFECT STORM” of expertise, experience and enthusiasm. Fast forward to today and finally we saw the fruits of of our labour blossom!!!...
Only his 2nd race of the season and already Andy is putting the ‘POWER’ down. taking on the tough 28mile Pendle hill circuit on and smashing round in 1:08:04. finishing 7th out of 74 riders. Great to see quantifiable improvements after some very specific training with 2 of our athletes. Understanding how different energy systems fuel muscle contraction is key to creating effective training sessions both on and off the bike. Regularly testing the efficacy of those sessions both in our sports science lab and out in the field is also critical for improvement. Our 1-1 coaching packages take care of all that for you!!
