Our girls have been at it again today! Alice Sharpe and Charlotte Redden both competed at the BUCS road race- The national university road race championships. Alice took the win with Charlotte in 3rd pace
A great week for our team in our first season saw us competing at the prestigious Lincoln Grand Prix on Sunday followed by tonights ‘Matrix tour series’ !! A huge TV event run over the next few weeks. These are town centre criterium, fast frenetic bunch racing around a tight circuit with big local crowds. Also run on the same night as the Pro mens race. Tonight the SunSport Velo Womens RT were in action at Tameside, racing on the tight, technical 1KM purpose built criterium track. Annouska Edwards, Jane Helliwell and Alice Sharpe were in action for the team ahead of our trip down to the Lincoln Grand Prix on Sunday After 30 mins hard racing Annouska and Alice formed part of a 4 man break from which Annouska took the spirit win, Alice 3rd and jane out sprinted the peloton for a solid 5th place!! SSVWRT were back in action today racing in the Northwest. Maddy Scott took 2nd place At Salt Ayre criterium race circuit, narrowly beaten in the sprint! Sophie Thackery is racing the tough Holme valley Wheelers 2 day but was struck with bad luck on stage 2 after her bottle cage came lose fouling her pedals. Neutral service helped her repair roadside but after losing 3 minutes she bravely chased on for 30 miles!! With the overall out of reach be sure she will go hard tomorrow!!!!...
Only 4 months ago and a phone call between myself (SunSport coaching) and Tony Orrell (Team Torelli) was made and we decided to commit to finally putting a women’s race team together -Insane decision….YES……. but step forward Neil Lee (Velo Espresso) and Neil O’Brien (O’ Brien race Services) and you have the ‘PERFECT STORM” of expertise, experience and enthusiasm.
